It was a test. Just for fun. I get an idea, I test it immediately. No second guesses. No “mañanas”. When I started selling services through this newsletter, there was something I knew was far more important than the services themselves. Transformation. Awareness. Control. Network. I was totally aware of this. And it’s something you should never lose sight of. No matter if it is for your own business or you work for someone else. But also… communication. It doesn’t matter how good you are at what you do if you can’t communicate it first. But even before that… You won’t arrive very far if you are not known. I go on the street, I meet someone, I talk about this newsletter. People that read it. Stories I tell. Responses from subscribers. First, to be known. Second, communicate what you know. Life is selling. Selling is like seduction. If you’re handsome and you know how to seduce, great. But if you’re ugly and a great seducer, you’ll still get a ton of attention. And definitely more than the handsome guy who’s dull, hesitant, clumsy, or broke. But you need to be in the bar first, and be noticed. When I was 17, I had an accident. I injured myself in the knee. I was with a group of 350 students and the following day I had an audition with the King and Queen of Spain. Being travelling with so many people, I could not get a pair of crutches. I was “dating” a girl, one of those students, so I asked… “Can I get your shoulder and use it as a crutch?”. The King and the Queen were passing by, shaking hands with all of us. They saw me, holding my “friend”, a lovely postal card. And we stayed talking for a while. A few minutes, while I told the story of my injury. Of course, it was me and my “girl” on the news. It was a famous student programme and it was lovely to see the King and Queen so chatty with kids… Directly to TVs and the main News. Fine. The curious thing is that I could not finish the programme that year because of the injury. So I repeated next year. Again, an audition with the King and Queen. I was passing by, this time as any other normal student… I shake the King’s hand. Then I shake the Queen’s hand. But… she kept holding! Eh??? I looked at her… “Are you the one with the broken leg with saw last year?”. White. Incredulous. We kept chatting. I told them about my injury and why I was there again. Of course… Again on the news. That’s the power of being noticed. So… Next time… what would you use to get noticed? Maybe your knowledge? Anecdotes? A good database can be found below. PD 1: If you liked this email, don't keep it in secret and forward it to a friend. They will thank you enormously one day. Does the public sector do it right – I’m asked many times. The short answer is Yes. And more often than you think. But you don’t get it into the headlines. This project is not very known for the great work of the parties involved. But you should know. The script is simple.PPP starts.Private side over-promises.Public side signs without reading. Then the claims rain down like monsoon season in Manila… or politicians on elections rally. M4 East Motorway, Sydney.Australia.Toll road.AUD 3.8...
Sometimes I’m heavily criticised. And I love it. Just awakening consciences. You oversimplify. Things are not that black or white. The situation was complex. Etc. And yes. It’s true. Simplification is important in our lives. Unless you’re a FlatEarther, you won’t be surprised if I say that the Earth is round. Or spherical. But that’s an oversimplification, because it’s not. However, for your day to day, that simplification is enough. You don’t care if the radius of the Earth is a few...
Anglo-Saxon country. Mid-200s. A public agency having wet dreams… They said “Don’t worry, the lenders will step in.”Like it was a rescue… It was a crime scene. The project had already collapsed.Construction delays, cost overruns, contractors running for the hills. The SPV was bleeding cash faster than it could spell “refinancing.” Of course, everyone looked at the guys in suits… So the lenders felt the pressure and for once, they worked a little bit. They exercised their step-in rights. Poor...
