Elections coming. Pictures required. They called it an “inauguration.” Big words, big smiles, big scissors. Big rush. Of course… the project wasn’t ready. But, politicians of the world, don’t let reality to f*ck you a good picture with a first page on the journal… Half the lights didn’t work. No problem… cut the ribbon at noon. Paint in the maintenance and operations building still wet. Specially the green one outside… Contractor hiding the unfinished lane with orange cones. But the Minister? Already tweeting: “Another milestone delivered for our nation!” Photographers zoomed in carefully — framing only the “good” side. The one without the bulldozer still parked behind the barrier. Workers spent the night before sweeping dust, not finishing works. Just dusting the illusion. The SPV played along. The Authority smiled. The media clapped. And the taxpayers? They got a half-baked road with a full-price ceremony… with a few more extras. Because, of course… they had to pay for a claim. For extra costs, of course… and delays… as expected and advised, of course. Three weeks later the section closed again for “final touches.” Nobody cared. The ribbon was cut. The photo done. The story told. The extra costs paid. Welcome to infrastructure theatre. For more insights, click below. PD 1: If you liked this email, don't keep it in secret and forward it to a friend. It was a test. Just for fun. I get an idea, I test it immediately. No second guesses. No “mañanas”. When I started selling services through this newsletter, there was something I knew was far more important than the services themselves. Transformation. Awareness. Control. Network. I was totally aware of this. And it’s something you should never lose sight of. No matter if it is for your own business or you work for someone else. But also… communication. It doesn’t matter how good you are at...
Does the public sector do it right – I’m asked many times. The short answer is Yes. And more often than you think. But you don’t get it into the headlines. This project is not very known for the great work of the parties involved. But you should know. The script is simple.PPP starts.Private side over-promises.Public side signs without reading. Then the claims rain down like monsoon season in Manila… or politicians on elections rally. M4 East Motorway, Sydney.Australia.Toll road.AUD 3.8...
Sometimes I’m heavily criticised. And I love it. Just awakening consciences. You oversimplify. Things are not that black or white. The situation was complex. Etc. And yes. It’s true. Simplification is important in our lives. Unless you’re a FlatEarther, you won’t be surprised if I say that the Earth is round. Or spherical. But that’s an oversimplification, because it’s not. However, for your day to day, that simplification is enough. You don’t care if the radius of the Earth is a few...
