If you receive emails in CC, do this

When I assess how most professionals and entrepreneurs manage their time, I see the same mistake on repeat.

They treat every task as equally important and/or equally urgent.

So, they get bogged down with massive to-do lists, where responding to administrative emails assumes the same importance as servicing top clients.

Stress is high.

Burn-out massive.

Effectiveness low.

Results inexistent.

Your tasks shouldn’t all carry equal weight.

And some of the tasks on your list may not deserve any of your time at all.

I know that it’s hard, but… that’s life.

There is a 2x2 Decision Framework.

It’s a practical way to keep your sanity intact so you can focus on your most important work.

This framework forces every task on your list into one of four categories:

1. Do Now: High urgency, high importance
2. Schedule: Low urgency, high importance
3. Delegate: High urgency, low importance
4. Delete: Low urgency, low importance

I see many people gamifying tasks, feeling good about writing down another tick, done. But then, they get frustrated because they don’t see results.

Your time and energy are your most precious assets.

Wasting your time ticking boxes for a momentary reward of dopamine is not going to bring you closer to your objectives.

Sticking to what’s important is.

It’s hard. It works.

You’ll thank me for that.

So, next time that you have your inbox full of messages where you are CC… think of which quadrant that task is… Then, press DELETE.

Once I had a friend called Valentin. His parents gave him that name long time ago because he was born on 14 February. In Spain, there are still many people naming their children with the name of the saint of the day… or the day they were married, or things like that. Well… His parents could not foresee at the time the long term consequences of their choice. San Valentine was not at the time the word-wide phenomenon that it’s today. But still… there was some noise. Well… The thing is that...

You do your offer of services. Of course, as it couldn’t be otherwise, extremely expensive. And then… they rejected it. That’s fine. Part of life. Interesting challenge, but with the risk of becoming a frustrating job. Difficult stakeholders. I did not ask for it, but the gave me anyway. The reason for they decision was “interesting”. It was not price. Not the onerous payment conditions. Or the absurdly harsh terms and conditions. Nope. It was a… “We want to do it ourselves”. Then, you...

More than you think. And it’s everywhere. Some people call it laziness. Even ignorance. Or worse… unawareness… Or insufficient understanding. The fact is that my team called the guys. The water guys. Aqualia in Spain. Once. Twice. Finally, they came. They installed the new device to measure water consumption. We wanted to change the contract, using the new device that comes with lower fees (it was a development site). No answer. Call. No answer. Call. They answered. The device is not correct....
