It was supposed to be India’s big PPP success story. Then… disaster. The first consortium collapsed in slow motion. Equity providers in beheaded chickens. And lenders in beggars. The project was drowning in paperwork and blame. Until someone said the magic words: “A tomar por culo”… or in plain English “Change the whole f*cking team, bring me a new SPV”. Tough choice. Brave choice. Finally, true leadership leader. Lean, tough, and allergic to excuses. From boardroom to site cabin. And this part is interesting. They didn’t rewrite the contract. Meet the new guys in town: L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd. They fought for right-of-way. Today, Hyderabad Metro runs more than 69 km… probably the world’s largest elevated metro built under a PPP… Although who knows what the Chinese will publish tomorrow in LinkedIn. This turnaround can teach us something important. Experience. Incentives. And leadership turned a train wreck into a running metro. By the way, I don’t use any metaphors below. PD 1: If you liked this email, don't keep it in secret and forward it to a friend. The same instincts that keep you safe… are also keeping you small. It’s called Passive Ambition. You crave freedom, but fear risk You want all the upside, but avoid volatility You dream big, but act small Look. Every person you admire once looked like a fool. Entrepreneur. Athlete. Builder. Whatever. Building anything meaningful starts with a bet, usually on...
Elections coming. Pictures required. They called it an “inauguration.” Big words, big smiles, big scissors. Big rush. Of course… the project wasn’t ready. But, politicians of the world, don’t let reality to f*ck you a good picture with a first page on the journal… Half the lights didn’t work. No problem… cut the ribbon at noon. Paint in the maintenance and operations building still wet. Specially the green one outside… Contractor hiding the unfinished lane with orange cones. But the Minister?...
It was a test. Just for fun. I get an idea, I test it immediately. No second guesses. No “mañanas”. When I started selling services through this newsletter, there was something I knew was far more important than the services themselves. Transformation. Awareness. Control. Network. I was totally aware of this. And it’s something you should never lose sight of. No matter if it is for your own business or you work for someone else. But also… communication. It doesn’t matter how good you are at...
